Marvin Gaye completely lets his guard down and stands naked on HERE, MY DEAR, the record on which he speaks directly from his wounded heart. Much more than just the chronicle of his divorce from Anna Gordy Gaye, the album is also the portrait of a conflicted soul at the height of his torment and a heartbreaking metaphor for the healing power of music.
All of the songs are terrific and they are immaculately woven together. The doo-wop of the title track sits perfectly among the intense "Anger" and the lovely, lifting "Sparrow." The transitional songs "I Met A Girl" and "Everybody Needs Love" are gorgeous and pained, while "A Funky Space Reincarnation" brings in some sly humor at just the right moment.
Though every track is individually terrific (including "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You," the probing centerpiece to the set), the entire album should be thought of and listened to as a collective work. The compositions are loose and extremely complex, which is exactly why it went misunderstood by critics and audiences at the time of it's release. Possibly the most harrowing, emotional, and brutally honest releases to ever come from a mainstream artist.

Innovative and engaging, Zion I's Mind over Matter succeeds because of its impressive conceptual execution. The Bay Area trio of Zion, Amp Live, and DJ K-Genius set the tone with the old-school energy of "Revolution (B-boy Anthem)," reawakening hip-hop's subversive impulses. Spiritual--not economic--uplift is the focus of this album, and Zion's meditative lyrics deconstruct materialist craving ("Venus") and deliver stream-of-consciousness musing ("How Many"). Zion I avoid being overly earnest, tossing in no-frills bangers ("Critical" with Planet Asia), and also tastefully embrace drum & bass on the previously released single "Inner Light" and the soothing instrumental "Metropolis." This versatile and progressive musical ambience, courtesy of the knob-twiddling of 418Hz Productions, mirrors their lyrical tone, serving up a nourishing blend of beats and rhymes. --Del. F. Cowie

From Wikipedia :
No More Mr. Nice Guy is the debut album by alternative hip hop artist Gang Starr, released in 1989 (see 1989 in music). Although a critical success upon its first release, amid the first wave of alternative hip hop acts like De La Soul, No More Mr. Nice Guy remains somewhat overshadowed by massively influential albums like 3 Feet High and Rising. This may be due to its old school simplicity, both in rhyming by Guru, and in the beats by DJ Premier. Unlike later albums, like Step in the Arena, No More Mr. Nice Guy does not tackle social or political issues; it consists of quite a few love songs and boasting tracks.

A killer bit of early funk from the great Hamilton Bohannon -- and quite possibly his best album! The album's much better than some of his later LPs -- with a slower funk sound than Bohannon's fast disco of the late 70s, and a wild approach to rhythm that mixed together scatter-shot drums with funky wah wah guitar, organ, and hard-plugging basslines. All cuts are instrumentals, save for a few chorus vocals -- and players on the album include Wah Wah Watson, Ray Parker, Travis Biggs, and Mose Davis. Bohannon's on drums and percussion -- and titles include "The Pimp Walk", "Stop & Go", "Getting to the Other Side", "It's Time For Peace", "Save Their Souls", and "Singing a Song for My Mother".

People often ask, "Who are The Dix?" These charismatic young men hail from soulful Compton, New York, home of the infamous "Booty Clap". The Dix came onto the scene in 1957 as The Bangkoks with original members Orgynius, Peter O’Tool, Tro John, and John Handcock. The Bangkoks boasted a top ten hit called "Love Biscuit" which was the anthem of every blue-lighted house party in 1962. The Bangkoks reassembled as the Dix in 1965 with the addition of new group members Dik Gracin and the Jonsun Brothers thus creating a brand new sound that could only be described as "Orgasmic". The Dix do more than just hit the spot, their cataclysmic rhythms and harmonies combined with their explosive dance moves makes The Dix one of the best groups to grace the recording industry. Almost 40 years after the tragic break up of The Dix, hip-hop pioneer and musicologist Prince Paul (De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School) unearths The Dix lost recording The Art of Picking Up Women via! Mr. Len’s Smacks Records. With their sexy and tantalizing hit songs "Here Come The Dix", "Tears In My Eyes (Dirty Girl)", and "I Luv U Girl", The Dix are back to give the biggest bang of their life... and yours too!
Jāpiebilst tikai ka, Prince Paul un Mr. Len ir labi pastrādājuši. The Dix ir fikcija!

Guitarist Charlie Byrd was invited to travel and play in Brazil during a cultural goodwill tour sponsored by the Kennedy administration in 1961. He was completely enamoured by the music, and when he returned, he headed straight for the recording studio to make the now classic Jazz Samba. Collaborating with Stan Getz on tenor sax and backed by a band that included Gene Byrd (bass, guitar), Keter Betts (bass), and Buddy Deppenschmidt and Bill Reichenbach (drums), Byrd forged a new and brilliant sound. American record companies were to churn out hundreds of watered bossa-pop albums that have since given the style its lounge-addled image, but this album stands as a tribute to the vitality and adaptability of jazz. --Louis Gibson

Producer - DJ Vadim
www.themilkfactory.co.uk review :
One Self is not just another solitary excursion into musicdom, but a bona fide band, formed with Swedish-Brazilian singer/MC Yarah Bravo and American MC Blu Rum 13. Both are long-term collaborators of Vadim, notably as part of his touring band, Russian Percussions, and this project is very much the fruit of a common effort.
Following two critically acclaimed singles, Be Your Own and the recent Bluebird, the trio are now bringing their first album, Children Of Possibility, just on time for it to resonate all throughout the summer. With all three taking equal ownership of what One Self is about, there is no space for oversized egos here. Still, both vocalists define their own breathing space, while at times crossing each other’s path. Blu Rum regularly ventures into off-beat poetry, shaping clever rhymes with ease, while Bravo appears more straight-talking and upfront. Meanwhile, Vadim crafts impeccable minimal hip-hop beats on which he hangs a variety of sounds, referencing in turn ethnic percussions or instrumentations, dub and jazz. Children Of Possibility has the hazy feel of a hot summer afternoon on the black sea Riviera.
Snaking its way through various atmospheric settings to progressively impregnate the brain and get under the skin, this album is not as instantaneous and accessible as the singles could have led to think. Still, One Self keep things rather simple all the way through, layering vocals, beats and samples to highlight the exchanges between each member. On Bluebird or Hollow Human Being, One Self expose Yarah Bravo’s impressive and soulful singing alongside her rapping, and provide in the process some of the highlights of this record while Blu Rum pertinently draws subtle lines around Vadim’s beats and confidently delivers his stories, especially on the impressive Fear Of The Labour, Temptation and Paranoid.
For this first project together, One Self showcase an interesting vision of laidback contemporary hip-hop that’s got more to say than most. Yet, this album requires a few listens before its depth becomes fully palpable. Children Of Possibility shouldn’t be approached as one of Vadim’s project, but very much as the work of a new entity. If the Vadim touch is present all the way through, notably on the instrumental SD2, he leaves the centre stage to his two partners in crime, providing them with all the necessary space to steer these twelve tracks with confidence. In return, Bravo and Blu Rum adorn his composition with skilful rhymes and bring the whole thing to life. 4.2/5
